Medical Response to Cloudburst Crisis in Jammu and Kashmir

Emergency Medical Response in Kishtwar

The Government Medical College (GMC) and Hospital, a key healthcare institution in Jammu and Kashmir, played a vital role in addressing the medical emergency caused by a cloudburst in Kishtwar. They successfully performed complex surgeries on 25 critically injured individuals, saving their lives, as reported by officials.

Dr. Ashutosh Gupta, Principal of GMC Jammu, stated, "On the night of August 14, 66 severely injured patients were brought to GMC Jammu. That same night, approximately 25 major surgeries were conducted to save lives."

He further mentioned that medical care continued the following day, with additional surgeries being performed.

The disaster struck on August 14 around 12:30 PM in Chishoti village, located on the route to Machail Mata Temple, resulting in the deaths of 60 individuals and injuring over 100 others.

As a result of the cloudburst-induced flooding, 82 people are currently reported missing, including 81 pilgrims and one member of the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF).
